Bem-vindos ao Espírito Santo!
by Katie
This is the location of Espírito Santo in Brazil. The capital of Espírito Santo is Vitória and it is home to about 3,637,000 people. It is a coastal state, so a lot of the culture centers around the ocean! It is not super popular when it comes to international tourism, however, it is a favorite spot of native Brazilians! The demonym for people from this state is the word "capixaba."
This video shows some of the natural beauty that the state and the cities offer in Espírito Santo. From waterfalls to ocean views to city living, this place seems to have it all!
The main source of income in Espírito Santo is through steel and petroleum production, and it is actually the state with the highest production of these items. Following this line of production is agriculture and crop-production.
Some of the more popular food dishes in Espírito Santo include capixaba pie, fish pirão, crab, and breaded shrimp. It is no surprise they serve lots of seafood, given their coastal location! Capixaba pie is one of their most famous dishes and it normally includes fish, crab, oysters, mussels and more along with spices, eggs, and lemon. It was originally prepared for Holy Week, but in modern day is much more common for day to day meals.

The top activities to enjoy in Espírito Santo includes mostly outdoor experiences. There are many state parks to explore such as Parque Estadual da Pedra Azul and Parque Estadual de Itaúnas. There is also Praia dos Padres which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the region. If you enjoy dancing, check out Bar Forró or the Fenfit Festival held here every July to celebrate music and dancing.

With so many beautiful sights and exciting adventures to choose from, Espírito Santo is a place you could easily get lost in. There are many unique foods to try, different scenery to experience, and new people to get to know. Do you prefer exploring the outdoors or spending time meeting new people and dancing with large crowds?

ReplyDeleteThank you for the video you provided. I love how it shows Espirito Santo's nature, it's streets, its people. The video really captures the essence of the region. I like the idea of not being as popular as the other states/ regions. It probably means that it is more affordable and that tourist can enjoy the beach, its streets and all the landmarks of the region without expecting big crowds and waiting times.
Thank you for your post!

ReplyDeleteI do prefer exploring the outdoors. I love to go hiking and taking nature walks. I love walking around the streets of a new place and visiting ,local markets. I love to try new foods so I would definitively visit local restaurants.

Looks interesting, thanks!
DeleteCheck out the moqueca capixaba - it's a delicious fish stew very popular in Espírito do Santo.
DeleteEspírito Santo looks like a very relaxing place. It seems very peaceful with the nature, wildlife, and ocean views. Their popular food dishes looked very different and unique and I am interested to know what they taste like.
ReplyDeleteI personally have always enjoyed the city more than anything but I would definitely like to visit here for a getaway and to relax and enjoy the nature and the ocean.
Boa Tarde! Obrigada!
ReplyDeleteEspírito Santo looks like an amazing place. I loved your pictures. I like how the place offers so many outdoor activities. I would love to visit Parque Estadual da Pedra Azul one day. Also, the beaches look amazing. Even though I don't eat seafood, the seafood looks delicious! I love the unique food in this place.
Although I like dancing and meeting people, I prefer the outdoors. With so many beautiful places, I would love to hike or spend the day on the beach in Espírito Santo.

ReplyDeleteEspírito Santo looks like the place to be! It seems to offer many food options and outdoor activities. In regards to your question, I feel like I equally enjoy outdoors activities and meeting new people to dance with. I think it solely depends on my mood for that day because sometimes its nice to be inside with friends and dance but also chill but then other times I am in the mood to get lost in this beautiful world that has so many beautiful sights and treasures to see. I think if I were to visit Espírito Santo, I would likely stick to the outdoor activities more though as all the pictures make it appear so beautiful, especially the Parque Estadual da Pedra Azul because in IL it is very flat and coming out here to AZ I have fallen in love with the mountains and this park looks like one heck of a place to be.
This place also looks amazing. It's funny how you mentioned this being a vacation destination for Brazilians, but I feel like if not for Brazil being absolutely full of beautiful places, this area would also be an international tourist destination. There are just too many places for tourists to visit when they come to Brazil.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to be where the people are simply because that's where the highest concentration of culture can be found. My wife and I have a rule though that every trip has to include an outdoor adventure of some sort, something like hiking or kayaking in a nearby nature preserve.
The beaches in Espírito Santo are the favorite destination for the mineiros (people from Minas Gerais).
DeleteBoa noite!
ReplyDeleteI prefer spending time with new people and experiencing the cultural aspect of a region. My favorite way to get to know a country is by trying a lot of authentic cuisine and walking around the streets of a city. Experiencing the nightlife is also a fun way to get to know a city!
Thank you for the information on Bar Forró and the Fenfit Festival. I'm not sure if those festivals are similar to Carnival, but all of them seem like a fun and lively way to experience the nightlife of a country. What a fun way to celebrate music and culture!
Boa tarde!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, WOW, at the pictures of food you provided. Just by looking at them I noticed a popularity of seafood—my favorite. As I read on, I noticed from oysters to crab, in Espirito Santo it all seems to be there. I like how small this region is, I think there can be a collective niche of culture, whether it be food, art, music. And, the fact that this region is located on the coast makes it even more interesting. I read on another post that the beaches were about 2 or 3 hours from the city, considering commute and driving (or helicopter rides). I visited Hawaii recently, Maui specifically, and there was a calming sensation to be able to see all of the island and a lot of what it offers in a matter of days. Brazil is HUGE, so it is nice to know there are some smaller regions that can be deeply explored.
Obrigado!
Hello, I really enjoy learning about Espirito Santo. It looks like a place where people have a lot of activities to do. I saw in one of the videos that people were rock climbing close to waterfalls. Looks amazing. The beach is beautiful. Thank you very much for your presentation; I really enjoyed it. I like being outdoors, so, I would enjoy visiting this beautiful place where I can feel peace and calm. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteEspirito santo had me at sea food! I love sea food and breaded shrimp is one of my go tos! I think so far this one is my favorite, I would love to vacation here! Even the inner city looks so peaceful, and thats what I like the most because the other places we have learned about had such a city vibe to it, and thats the life that I have here and I would love to be in a tropical setting!
